New Delhi: Delhi CM Rekha Gupta assured on Thursday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government will fulfill its election promise of providing financial aid of Rs 2,500 per month to women. Gupta announced that the first payment will be credited to beneficiaries’ accounts by March 8, coinciding with International Women’s Day.
The BJP had made this commitment in an effort to outmatch the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) election pledge of Rs 2,100 per month in financial assistance to women. The promise played a significant role in the BJP’s electoral campaign, which ultimately led to the party securing 48 out of 70 seats in the Delhi Assembly elections, thus ending AAP’s decade-long dominance in the capital.
“All 48 BJP MLAs in the capital are accountable for realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision. We are committed to keeping our promises, including providing financial assistance to women. By March 8, all eligible women will receive the assistance in their accounts,” Gupta affirmed.
Gupta, who was elected on Wednesday as the leader of the BJP parliamentary party, emphasized that her primary responsibility is to fulfill the commitments made during the election campaign. Her appointment as Delhi’s Chief Minister marks a historic milestone, making her the fourth woman to hold this position.
Later in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries are expected to attend Gupta’s swearing-in ceremony. Gupta, a former municipal councilor and ex-president of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU), brings a wealth of political experience to her new role.
With this major policy initiative, the BJP aims to strengthen its support base among women and reinforce its governance agenda in the national capital.
